Santiago de la Cerra
Manager: 1994 - 2002
Player: 1994 - 2004
Team: SFV Tigers
Starting from humble beginnings in 1994 Santiago de la Cerra entered the San Fernando Valley Tigers into the Pacific Coast Baseball adult league. He coached the Tigers from 1994-2002 posting a record of 208-108-7, he achieved 6 straight playoff appearances, a P.C.B.L. American Division championship in 1999, and was a member of the 2003 Championship team as well. In addition to these achievements, he coached the American division all stars from 1997-2000 gaining him two victories. While managing the Tigers, Santiago primarily played first base and offered the team steady and consistent play. His unselfish managing style allowed many of his players to get playing time while he sacrificed his own.
His managing ability was the key to maintaining many of the original players on the team. Because of this, the SFV Tigers are the longest lasting team in PCBL history and still play to this day. The SFV Tigers and the PCBL League owe Santiago a debt of gratitude for all that he has given to his team and to this league. Santiago was known to his teammates as “softy” (among other nicknames), but there was nothing soft about him. We give thanks to Santiago for lending us his sportsmanship and expertise to the great game of baseball.
